Sol

Sol is a soldier of the military contingent of Sigma Corporation. He is a skilled swordsman, and uses a three-bladed weapon known as the Magus Blade.

Arcturus

Arcturus is the founder of the rebel network ContraBand, which is the primary medium of communication for the anti-Sigma organization, The Balance. His weapon of choice is the gun, and he has learned to fuse Media with his sidearms to achieve an explosive magical edge.

Azure

A martial arts master, she shows up later in the game. You'll be glad she does, too; her insane acrobatic attacks and powerful sorcery help out big time.

Urobolos

A sort of living legend among Sigma Corporation, Urobolos serves in the same capcity as Saul. Urobolos is rumored to have never been wounded in his years of battle, and that his true skills are unbeknownst to all but him.

The Media

Media are thought to be the crystallized essence of an ancient sorcerer race, called the Tetra. Today, they are used by soldiers to augment traditional melee and projectile weapons but are believed, however, to have "alternative" usages. Sigma Corporation destroys Media (and the souls they contain) in order to produce electricity, and also uses them in experiments on humans.
